My Story

Believe it or not, accounting has been a significant part of my life. Most people think accounting is boring and mundane, but I've found it to be quite fascinating over the years, learning about different businesses, and meeting many interesting personalities.

It all began during high school when my parents suggested that I become a Chartered Accountant ("CA"). They believed it was an "easy" office job where I could make a decent living. I had no clue what type of career I should pursue, so I decided to become an accountant, as my parents suggested. I took accounting courses in high school, and graduated from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly known as Ryerson University), with a major in.....you guessed it.... accounting.

I worked in CA firms to get my required work experience in audit, accounting, and taxation. In the fall of 2003, I wrote and passed an extremely challenging final exam, which was comprised of 3 gruelling consecutive days of exam writing totalling 13 hours! By November 2003, I was formerly designated a CA. It was one of the happiest days of my life!

I continued to work in a CA firm, then went on to work in industry as a financial controller for various companies in the restaurant, construction, education, satellite communication, and legal industries.

In 2012, I opened my own accounting practice on a part time basis, while working a full time job. By 2015, Jane Kwan CPA Professional Corporation grew organically, through referrals, into a full time business providing accounting, tax, bookkeeping, and part time controller services to small businesses and startups.
